Areas of expertise include ground, airborne and shipboard systems. Engineers from the group are critical to all aspects of prototype or system development beginning with conceptual design, continuing through detail design, system integration and test, fabrication, and environmental testing. We provide technical guidance through rigorous analytical, physical, and computational methods with data driven products to enhance decision making and risk management.Roles & Responsibilities:MITRE's Mechanical and Reliability Department is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to perform mechanical and environmental analyses for ground, airborne and shipboard systems.The successful candidate will:Work with cross-functional technical teams comprised of both in-house and sponsor personnel in the development and evaluation of command-and-control systems.Perform dynamics, structural, and thermofluids analyses at the component, individual item, and system level.Be responsible for deliverables or parts of deliverables to sponsors.Basic Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related plus a minimum of 5 years of related experience or or equivalent combination of related education and work experience who can immediately contribute at this job stepExperience using CAD software and generating and interpreting mechanical drawingsExperience conducting engineering analyses in the areas of structures, dynamics, and thermofluids, including the application of Finite Element Analysis techniquesAbility to scope and perform mechanical engineering tasks autonomouslyAbility to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret ClearancePer the U.S. Government’s eligibility requirements, you must be a U.S Citizen to be considered for a security clearance.This position requires a minimum of 4 days a week on-sitePreferred Qualifications: Three years of experience and a master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job stepExperience working collaboratively in a team environment and demonstrated excellence and effectiveness of written and verbal communication skillsExperience with SolidWorks CAD toolsExperience with ANSYS (e.g. Workbench, APDL, Mechanical, LS-Dyna, CFX, Fluent, Icepak)High-level computational skills in large scale simulations, data analysis, and programmingDemonstrated ability to lead independent research tasks.
